Itinerary

FROM MONTECATINI TO VINCI ABOUT 57 KM / INTERMEDIATE / E-MTB / 1 DAY

Meeting at the Montecatini-Monsummano railway station to get on the saddle and start pedaling in the direction of Vinci, along the hills made famous in the paintings of the Genius of Leonardo. These hills are in the largest area of Montalbano, a mountainous/hilly area that extends for approx. 16.000 hectares between the provinces of Pistoia, Prato and Florence and of which a large part was chosen, in the past, by the Medici family as their hunting reserve. You will skirt the edges of the Fucecchio Marsh (the largest wetland area in Italy).

You will then continue the ride in a continuous ups and downs among olive trees and vineyards (this area is also called the Montalbano Oil and Wine Road) until you’ll reach Vinci, Leonardo’s birthplace. There you will have the time for a lunch break. Then visit the small and very pretty village, the Leonardiano Museum (entrance fee) and the Church of Santa Croce where Leonardo was baptized. From there, for those who still have energy to pedaling, you can reach the town of Anchiano (3 km uphill) where Leonardo’s birthplace house is located (possibility of shuttle transfer, extra charge).

On the way back, you will have the chance of a refreshing stop at a local farmhouse to taste typical food and wine.

Return to the starting point in the evening to return back the bikes.
