FROM MONTECATINI/LUCCA TO THE SEA OF VIAREGGIO CA. 47 KM / EASY / CITY BIKE / 1 DAY
You will leave by train Montecatini to Lucca where you will pick up your bike and begin to see the varied beauty of the city of Lucca and the typical Tuscan landscape, among several hills of Mediterranean scrub and olive trees to reach the coast.
From Lucca you will cycle for a short distance on the city walls, where you will enjoy glimpses of the whole of Lucca also known as “town of the hundred churches” due to the high number of religious buildings. You will then proceed on secondary roads and partly on cycle paths in the middle of the typical Tuscan landscape and lands with poplars, until the town of Torre del Lago, where the composer Giacomo Puccini established his residence. Time to stop for a lunch or snack.
Still pedaling for a last stretch in the green until you will reach the renowned seaside resort of Viareggio with its beautiful promenade, full of boutiques and shops and made famous by its colorful Carnevale with its artwork of papier-mâché floats.
Return trip by train to Montecatini with a short stop in Lucca to return back the bikes.
